Question Of The Day

Health and Wealth

Do you need pulp?

Pulp is the fibrous byproduct leftover after extracting the juice from fresh fruits and vegetables. Technically, it’s called pomace. The juicier, thicker the vegetable, the more juice you’ll yield.

Why Keep The Pulp?

Pulp contains nearly 95% of the fiber of fresh fruits and veggies, as well as up to half the nutrients. They’re the very same things that we are urged to eat more of to reduce the risk for everything from type 2 diabetes and obesity to cardiovascular disease and cancer.

When you plan to use pulp in your cooking or baking, peel and core your produce before it goes down the chute. You don’t want apple seeds or tough pineapple peel in your homemade breakfast bars.

Benefits

Pulp is rich in fiber ; Fiber helps regulate the body’s use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check. We need at least 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day for good health, but most of us average about 15 grams a day.

Gut Health is Health and Wellness; Your gut wall houses 70 percent of the cells that make up your immune system. When your gut is happy the body is.

Full of nutrients and minerals; When you juice a lot of the good stuff gets booted out.

How to store leftover pulp

If you’re not going to use your pulp right away, it’ll keep well in a sealed container in the fridge for about 24 hours.

You can also freeze it in bags, though the color and texture may change slightly when you thaw it.

Ways to use pulp:

Veggie Burgers

Soup Broth

Vegan Basil Pesto

Baked Goods

Smoothies

Breakfast

Fruit Leather

Popsicles

Clothing Dye

Cream Cheese Spread

Dog Treats

Common Juicing Mistakes

Health and Wealth

FRESH JUICE SHOULD BE CONSUMED ON AN EMPTY STOMACH

The whole point of drinking juice is diminished if you don’t and it can give you digestive problems. If you need to eat for other health reasons stay away from sugar, meat, junk food etc. Drinking juice on an empty stomach allows the juice’s vitamins and minerals to go straight to your bloodstream.

LEAVING YOUR JUICER DIRTY

Wash or at least rinse your juicer right after juicing. Trust me; it’ll save you a ton of time and scrubbing. (Add a bag into pulp dump for a faster clean up)

LETTING THE JUICE SIT AROUND

Juice should never be left sitting around. Once you juice it, either drink it right away or freeze it. All pressed juice is beneficial in the fridge for five days and the freezer 3 to 6 months.

USING DRY ITEMS

Avoid trying to juice things with low water content. For example, stay away from coconut, sugar cane, and grains. These ingredients have massive amounts of fiber but barely any liquid.

PUSHING PRODUCE USING SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE PLUNGER

Many juicers come with their plastic plunger tools. They’re designed for use with a particular model and are carefully sized to match. They’re to help you push items down the food chute without getting caught in the juicer mechanism. If you try this with any other implement, especially a metal object, you could destroy the machine and injure yourself in the process.

TIPS TO REMEMBER

Prep your produce, meaning WASH AND SOAK THEM. Yes, even the organic ones.

Kiwis, beets, and fruits or vegetables with hair on them should be scrubbed,  peeled and soaked as well.

Remember 1 cup of vinegar or apple cider vinegar, and a sink full of water is the easiest method.

Chronic Pain and How to help yourself heal.

Health and Wealth

Hey, hey everyone, I hope everyone has been having a wonderful holiday this season. I know with covid, things have been different, but I hope you find a piece of joy through it. Today we will dive into chronic pain, some of the causes, medication, and more. As always, please consult with your doctor or a trusted physician before changing your diet if you have any concerns.

What is chronic pain?

Chronic pain is an unpleasant sense of discomfort. Imagine catching a cramp, a tree falling on the cramped spot, and then an elephant steps on you a bunch of times. Chronic pain persists over time and is often resistant to medical treatments.

Chronic pain:

It may be related to a number of different medical conditions, including (but not limited to) diabetes, arthritis, migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS, endometriosis, cancer, shingles, adenomyosis, sciatica, and previous trauma or injury. Chronic pain may worsen in response to environmental and psychological factors.

Over the counter medicine Given:

  • Ibuprofen
  • Asprin
  • Sedatives
  • Opioids
  • Antidepressants
  • Antimigraine medicine
  • Acetaminophen-pain relievers/fever reducers

Natural Remedies:

  • Soak in warm water 20-40 minutes (herb soaks, water therapy, whirlpool tub)
  • Dry heat therapy-heat packs or wraps) Plenty at Walmart
  • Essential Oils-Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary (Make sure to dilute oil or make a salve)
  • Massage Therapy: A high-quality therapeutic massage spurs blood flow, reduces muscle tension, and boosts wellness feelings.
  • Meditate and Relax-If, you feel your pain, notice the pain, and return to your sound. Start with a few minutes, and gradually lengthen to 30 minutes if you find meditation enjoyable. Youtube has much good meditation-video; my favorite channel is https://www.youtube.com/user/MichaelSealey.
  • Swap more anti-inflammatory foods into your diet-Anti-inflammatory foods—such as fruits, vegetables, unsaturated fats, whole grains, beans, nuts, and fish high in omega-3 fatty acids—may play a role in reducing pain for some people.
  • Acupuncture- A Chinese practice where fine needles are used
  •  Herbs to use- Devil’s claw and white willow bark, for example, can decrease the joint pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis. And primrose and ginger may help ease chronic muscle pain associated with fibromyalgia. Other herbs to use are turmeric, feverfew, eucalyptus, cloves, and green tea.

My Top Two Herbs:

  1. Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) seeds are stocked with 16 analgesic and 27 antispasmodic chemicals. It makes a pleasant licorice-flavored tea and is especially good for menstrual cramps. But avoid the herb while pregnant or nursing because of its estrogenic effects.
  2. Gingerroot (Zingiber officinale) has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate digestive cramps and mild pain from fibromyalgia. You can take 1 to 4 grams of powdered ginger daily, divided into two to four doses. You are making tea from 1 teaspoon chopped fresh root simmered in a cup of water for about 10 minutes.

Fruits that may help with pain and inflammation:

  • Pineapple
  • Carrots
  • Apples
  • Cucumber
  • Grapes
  • Lemons
  • Oranges
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Blueberries
  • Watermelon
  • Limes

Juice Recipies-Soak your produce 1-2 cups vinegar / 10-15 min

Green juice:

Make for 30 days every morning:

  • ginger (peeled) – thumb-sized knob
  • coconut water-1/2 to 1 cup
  • celery – 2 full ribs (4 halves)
  • lemon (peeled) – drink garnish size piece
  • spinach – 1 cup
  • pineapple chunks (fresh or frozen) – 1 cup (

30 Days of Juices and Smoothies: Day 15 Hydration Juice

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, and welcome back to 30 days of Juice & Smoothies. Today is day 15, and I am here with a few tips when in the kitchen. We are also going to be going over some common juice mistakes and making hydration juice for children.

COMMON JUICING MISTAKES:

Not Drinking Juice On An Empty Stomach: Fresh juice should only be consumed on an empty stomach. The whole point of drinking juice is diminished if you don’t and can give you digestive issues like my friend experienced. Drinking juice on an empty stomach allows the juice’s vitamins and minerals to go straight to your bloodstream.

Leaving Your Juicer Dirty: Wash or at least rinse your juicer right after juicing. Trust me; it’ll save you a ton of time and scrubbing.

Let the juice sit around: Juice should never be left sitting around. Once you juice it, either drink it right away or freeze it. All pressed juice is beneficial in the fridge for five days and the freezer 4 to 6 months.

Using dry items: Avoid trying to juice things with low water content. For example, stay away from coconut, sugar cane, and grains. These ingredients have massive amounts of fiber but barely any liquid.
Pushing produce using something other than the plunger: Many juicers come with their plastic plunger tools. They’re designed for use with a particular model and are carefully sized to match. They’re to help you push items down the food chute without getting caught in the juicer mechanism. If you try this with any other implement, especially a metal object, you could destroy the machine and injure yourself in the process.

A few tips to remember are:

Prep your produce, meaning WASH AND SOAK THEM. Yes, even the organic ones. Kiwis, beets, and fruits or vegetables with hair on them should be scrubbed and soaked as well. Remember 1 cup of vinegar or apple cider vinegar, and a sink full of water is the easiest method.

Line your pulp basket with a plastic bag; trust me, when cleaning up after a long day of juicing, the last thing you want is to deal with the wet pulp.

Make your juice ahead of time. I drink 2-3 16oz juices a day. So if you know you want to do a cleanse, help yourself out. Of course, if you are on Oahu, you can always book a cleanse here.

Now for the Hydratation juice for children. Growing up, I had a lot of friends who didn’t like regular water. I find it to be more common nowadays. This juice is a yummy easy juice to make that will wow your children. This homemade electrolyte drink will rehydrate you and keep your electrolyte level up without the dyes and yucky stuff.

Day 15: 10/8: Hydration Juice

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of coconut water or spring water
  • 1 cup of fresh-squeezed orange juice (opt.)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 6-8 tbsp of sweetener ( honey or agave)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt ( not table salt)
  • 1 cup of apple juice

Coconut water is high in potassium (and antioxidants), as is citrus juice. You can easily half, double, or even triple this recipe to fit your needs. Mix everything in a blender and enjoy it!

Children under one should not consume honey.

Check back tomorrow for another yummy recipe.

30 days of Juices and Smoothies: Orangesicle

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, welcome back for Day 6 of our juice/smoothie fest!!! Today we are going to be making orangesicle ( smoothie). It is made with sweet potato, clementine, and carrot. It’s a lovely, healthy treat for any time of the day.

Day 6 ( September 29 2020) Orangesicle

Ingredients:

  1.  1/2-1 cup of unsweetened plain almond milk
  2. 1/2 cup orange juice
  3. 1/4 cup of vanilla greek yogurt
  4. 1/2 cup raw peeled diced sweet potatoes
  5.  1/2 banana sliced
  6. 1 large clementine or orange
  7. 1/2 cup sliced carrots

Tips:

  • Freeze your fruit to have a better texture of the smoothie.
  • You may need to add almond milk if it is to thick for you.
  • Sweet potatoes skins are safe to eat both raw and cooked, but it is essential to wash the skin.
  • It’s important to peel your carrots as well.

30 days of Juice & Smoothies

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, and welcome to 30 days of Juice & Smoothies. For the next 30 days, I will be posting juice and smoothie recipes along with tips, tricks, and more. Don’t forget to subscribe and follow, so you don’t miss a thing.

Please remember that I am not a doctor, just a humble juicer trying to heal the world before trying any recipes; if you have any concerns consult with your doctor first.

  1. If this is your first time juicing, start small. (50% juice 50% water)
  2. SOAK YOUR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES ( Sink full of water, 1 cup of water, few drops of dr.bronners soap – not too much 2 to 3 drops of soap max) for 15 minutes min.
  3. Clean your juicer right after juicing
  4. While juicing, drink plenty of water.
  5. For those of you with digestive issues, keep your juices as low in Sugar as possible. Even coming from fruit and vegetables, Sugar feeds bacteria of all types, including your harmful bacteria.
  6. If you have IBS, start by drinking only a small amount of celery juice (4 to 6 ounces), as large quantities could cause a flair – celery is high in fermentable carbohydrates. Although the fiber is removed, it can still cause tummy troubles for those who are sensitive to FODMAPs.

Day 1: September 24, 2020

Fight the bloat Green Juice

Makes 32 Ounces: 4 Cups

  • 2 pounds of celery washed, soaked, and chopped
  • 2 large cucumbers washed, soaked, and chopped
  • 1 large navel orange washed, soaked, and chopped
  • 1/2 lemon

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Soak all ingredients in a bath of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and water for 15 minutes before juicing. (I use about 1 cup vinegar per 1 gallon of water when I soak my vegetables).
  2. Follow the instructions according to your specific juicer. Once all ingredients are juiced, strain the juice through a fine-mesh strainer to remove the pulp. Drink immediately or store in an air-tight jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Freeze up to 3 months.

Adenomyosis I am not my disease

Humble Soul, Personal

I am not my disease. Adenomyosis stage 1 I was told. Back in 2018, I wanted to die. Getting up during my period felt like I was being stabbed. Every doctor I went to either thought I was crazy and went as far as trying to admit me to the psych ward. Imagine, me, 23 years old, working 70 hours a week, and being told I was crazy. Before that day, I had no idea what Adenomyosis was. I thought my long periods (my longest being 31 days), pain during sex (TMI), and extreme nausea and bloating was some karma. I blamed myself.

Maybe I partied excessively , my nutrition wasn’t the best, or even perhaps my past life karma followed me into this one. It took until recently for me to be in a better place mentally. I had to find myself again in a sense. I was worried about my marriage because so many things kept happening. I wasn’t the fun-loving person anymore. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep, I even had to quit my job because I couldn’t do it. I thought my life was over, and I was ready to die. Most doctors, I would say, eight out of ten know about this disease. Every answer I heard was birth control, deal with it with pain meds, or surgery. For those who don’t know about this disease, let me tell you: Adenomyosis is a condition of the uterus (womb). The cells that usually form a lining on the inside of the uterus, also grow in the muscle wall of the uterus.

The term adenomyosis comes from the words:

  • adeno – gland
    • myo – muscle and
    • osis – condition

Similar to endometriosis but very different. With endometriosis, cells similar to those that line the uterus are found in other parts of the body, such as the fallopian tubes, the ovaries or the tissue lining the pelvis (the peritoneum). Some theories many doctors have.

  • The lining cells invade into the muscle layer as a result of surgery
    • Bordering tissue was deposited into the uterine muscle early in fetal life, before birth
    • Inflammation of the lining after childbirth causes cells to pass into the weakened muscle layer

Adenomyosis is mainly only seen in women in their reproductive years because its growth requires oestrogen. But it has been found in some young women. To learn about it more check out https://clinmedjournals.org/articles/ogcr/obstetrics-and-gynaecology-cases-reviews-ogcr-5-121.php?jid=ogcr; A lot more research still needs to be done. After menopause, Adenomyosis usually goes away because of the lack of oestrogen.

For those of you who don’t know what oestrogen is, I got you covered. Oestrogen is a female sex hormone with many roles in the body, from controlling puberty to strengthening bones. Having too much or too little oestrogen can cause a range of different medical conditions.

Some of the symptoms include abnormal periods, painful periods, pain during sex, tiredness, anemia, and dizziness. The list is much longer, but to name a few. It’s most likely to occur in the back wall of the uterus but can occur anywhere in the muscle layer. If Adenomyosis is concentrated in one area, it can lead to a mass called an adenomyoma. To be diagnosed is hard. You first have to get your doctor to believe you. I was personally given a transvaginal ultrasound (the ultrasound probe is placed in the vagina). You could also get an MRI, or for those who have already had a hysterectomy, a pathology test may be given.

The so-called treatments are mostly birth controls. For example, progestogen may be given, which comes in the form of an IUD (Mirena). A GnRH agonists (an artificial hormone used to prevent natural ovulation)could be used or, of course, a Hysterectomy. Now please remember I am not a doctor, and a lot of this is my experience. I started birth control at the age of 13 and got off in December 2019. It controlled my acne, my cramps, but not really, and the length of my period. I got off because I wanted to get my body ready for a baby. After getting off it, my body was, of course, all over the place. My acne came, and I was so embarrassed. It was crazy to me because the doctor had nothing for me but more drugs. I had to research to save my own life. I am going to break this post up, meaning we still have a lot more to discuss. Subscribe, so you never miss a thing. If you have Adenomyosis, Endometriosis, PCOS, or any other chronic illness, please know you are never alone. If you ever need to talk, please send us a message. I will be writing more about to heal your body, and I hope you join me on this journey.

Juice Cleanses.

Health and Wealth, Humble Soul

Good evening/morning everyone, today we are going to talk about what a juice cleanse is! I know you’ve read about why you should do one, and even about processed juices. But today we will dive into what a juice cleanse is. Juice cleanses are a type of detox diet that involves consuming fruits and vegetables for a short time from one to three days. The many varieties of juice cleanses include homemade juices made with fresh fruits and vegetables run through a juicer or pulverized in a blender, while others require store-bought juices. The practice of juicing isn’t new, but the first modern juicer was invented in the 1930s. Fruits and vegetables are filled with vitamins and minerals, and juicing extracts those nutrients making them easier to digest. Drinking juice is believed to flood the body with healing nourishment while also flushing toxins and waste. A juice cleanse supports the body’s natural detox processes, clears the diet of sugar, caffeine, refined foods, and other foods and substances that can deplete energy, and jumpstarts a more healthful way of eating.

How a juice cleanse works? During a juice cleanse, it is recommended to drink only juice for the number of days. For Humble Soul, we have from Day 1 to Day 5.

Preparation:

Three to five days before the cleanse, you will gradually eliminate certain foods, such as coffee, refined sugar, meat, dairy products, wheat, alcohol, and nicotine to reduce headaches, cravings, and other withdrawal symptoms. It’s also recommended to increase your intake of fresh vegetables, fruits, and fluids during the pre-cleanse.

Cleanse:

For the one to three days of the actual cleanse, it is recommended to drink at least 32 ounces of juice or smoothie with at least half being green vegetable juice. Our most popular cleanses the three-day cleanse, which comes with 18 juices you drink six a day and our five days cleanse that comes with 30 juices. It is also VERY VERY VERY important to drink half a gallon of water a day. Yes, you will be peeing like a racehorse, but your skin and body will thank you after the cleanse.

After the fast:

Once the fast is over, it is recommended to eat lightly for a few days, gradually adding foods back over several days. Please please DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT order a pizza, eat fried foods, or get super drunk the day after your cleanse. Your stomach will not be happy, and the toilet will be your BFF. Try light foods, steaming, or baking for at least two days after the cleanse. What to do during a cleanse?* Stick to Light Physical Activity: While it’s a good idea to tone down your exercise routine during a juice cleanse, normal activities such as walking can boost blood and lymphatic circulation.* Book a Massage: Try massage therapy (such as Swedish massage, lymphatic drainage, deep tissue massage, and Thai massage), contrast showers, and skin brushing, which can be done as part of a regular shower.* Practice Mind and Body Wellness: Stress can have adverse effects on health and may impair detoxification. Allow the mind to rest by incorporating mind/body practices such as diaphragmatic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or mindfulness meditation. Try to get plenty of rest. Go to bed as early as you can and take naps if possible

.* Prepare for Emotions That May Arise During Fasting: According to traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is associated with anger, the kidneys with fear, and the gallbladder holds frustration. Proponents of juice cleansing believe that old emotions may arise and be cleansed from the system as the corresponding organs are cleansed.

Now during juice cleanses, I get asked a lot can I eat during my cleanse? And technically, the answer is yes. Raw, organic juice is the critical component of the cleanse. It’s nutrients, phytochemicals, and antioxidants are in an easily absorbable liquid form. Vegan, gluten-free meals and snacks may be included for people requiring more energy, new to juice cleansing, or less extreme experience. Smoothies and vegan food can be added or substituted in more gentle juice cleanses. If you do decide to have a salad use a vinegar-based dressing on the bottom of this post ill post a few recipes.

Our Typical three day cleanse:

7 am ( Whenever you wake up): Ginger tea 9 am: Ultimate Green Juice 11 am: Tropical Carrot 1 pm: Ultimate Green Juice 2 pm: Beet pine 4 pm: Tropical Carrot 2 hours before bed drink green tea/ginger tea
The point of the cleanse is to drink juice every two hours. The times are just examples and a guideline to follow. To optimize nutrient absorption, juice cleanses proponents recommend drinking juice slowly rather than gulping it down. The final drink of the day is at least two to three hours before bedtime.

Recommended Products ( Cleanses) :

Juice cleanses can be done at home using a juicer or juice press. Cleanse programs are also available in many cities here in Hawaii you can order from Humble Soul. (https://www.facebook.com/yezzytaughtme3/?ref=bookmarks) They are also in local juice bars, larger chain stores such as Whole Foods Market, Costco, or Target, or can be ordered online from companies such as Blueprint Cleanse or Pressed Juicery.

Pros:

Better Health: Since fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrients, drinking fresh juice boosts the intake of vitamins, minerals, and other anti-inflammatory compounds that boost energy, immunity, and overall health.* Removes Toxins: Juice fasts are said to flush toxins from the body, although there is limited scientific evidence.* Improved Digestion: Raw juice contains enzymes that may improve digestion. Research shows that a juice-based diet can alter intestinal microbiota to enhance weight loss in as little as three days.

Cons:

Juicing isn’t for everyone. please check out Unprocessed Juice: https://wordpress.com/block-editor/post/humblesoullifeofajuicer.blog/237

Kidney Stones: Many juices are made from dark, leafy greens and beets, two highly oxalate foods, which may cause kidney stones and other problems.* Low Blood Sugar: The juice cleanse is small, and calories and may cause low blood sugar, which can be dangerous for people with diabetes and hypoglycemia. Symptoms of low blood sugar include dizziness, fainting, weakness, shakiness, headaches, and hunger.

 Similar diets:

1. Cabbage Soup Diet

2. Grapefruit Diet

3. Master Cleanse

As always, please remember to clean your fruits and vegetables. Humble Soul soaks fruits and vegetables in a mixture of 1 part vinegar (about 1/2 cup) and three parts water (we fill up the sink) for about 10 to 15 minutes) If you decide to use your sink, please wash and rinse it before and after every time to reduce contamination. )*Scrub firm produces, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush under running water. Even if you plan to peel the produce before juicing it, wash it under running water first, so dirt and bacteria are not transferred from the surface when peeling or cutting into it.
Have a blessed day! If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a ring. Until next time(:

Unprocessed Juice.

Health and Wealth, Humble Soul

Hey everyone, welcome Back!
Today, we are going to talk about Unprocessed Juice. Most people don’t know that when you juice from home, you are drinking unprocessed juice! Nowadays, juice and juicing are a big deal. For the past almost month, we have been stuck in the house. This is the perfect time for healing and trying new things. I know a lot of you have a lot of questions on unprocessed juice, so I will do my best to answer them all. We will start by talking about pasteurization, and I will go over what it is, and why people do it. Pasteurization is the process of heat-processing liquid or food to kill bacteria that may be harmful to people if they consume it. This also allows the juice to keep longer as it destroys many microbes that can cause spoilage. Freshly squeezed juice made on sites, such as at a restaurant, juice bar, grocery store, or farmers market, are not required to be sterilized. But, these establishments are required to use a warning labels either on the juice packaging, or they must provide them to the consumer.

Most warnings will look something like this:
“This product is produced in a facility that also processes tree nuts.”
WARNING: This product is not pasteurized and, therefore, may contain harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness in children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems.”

Now, I know you may be wondering: “if the FDA says it’s not safe, should I let my children drink it?” I have no children, and I am just a Humble juicer here to spread knowledge and help heal. With that being said, if you let your children, elderly parents, or anyone high-risk eat Mcdonalds, Processed foods, and any type of dairy, Honestly unprocessed juice is the last thing to worry about. Continue to read below to see some tips to ensure a clean rewarding juicing experience.  Please understand that I am not shaming anyone because my current diet isn’t the best. This sidenote is just an example for you! I also know many parents whose kids love our juices and juicing period. When juicing, make sure to clean everything, including all fruits, vegetables, cutting boards, knives, blenders, juicing machines, and glasses or bottles. Even if you’re not using the peels, clean them anyway. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water before and after preparation.Cutaway any damaged or bruised areas on fresh fruits and vegetables. Throw away any produce that looks rotten. ( I will be making a post/video once I get set up in our new house on shelf life for fruits and vegetables)Wash all produce thoroughly under running water before cutting or cooking, including produce grown at home or bought from a grocery store or farmers market.

Sidenote:* (Humble Soul soaks fruits and vegetables in a mixture of 1 part vinegar (about 1/2 cup) and 3 parts water (we fill up the sink) for about 10 to 15 minutes) If you decide to use your sink, please wash and rinse it before and after every time to reduce contamination. )*Scrub firm produces, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush under running water. Even if you plan to peel the produce before juicing it, wash it under running water first, so dirt and bacteria are not transferred from the surface when peeling or cutting into it.

*Sidenote: When we( Humble Soul) soak our fruits and vegetables, we do scrub the firm fruits and vegetables after the soak while rinsing.*After washing, dry produce with a clean cloth or paper towel to further reduce bacteria present on the surface.

*Sidenote: When washing leafy greens, make sure every bit of leaf gets soaked and rinsed. It may be easier to use a colander.*It’s not necessary to peel vegetables such as cucumbers, carrots, and beets, but some people prefer to remove the skin of these vegetables if they’re not organic. Peels often contain more nutrients than the veggies themselves. Food-safety experts advise that if you do peel such vegetables, make sure you’ve cleaned them first and washed the utensil you’ll be using to peel them with. You don’t want to introduce bacteria that might be on the surface of the veggie or fruit or the peeler into the product itself. For foods such as cantaloupe, the skin is to tough for a juicer, and fruits like oranges citrus fruit peels can be too acidic for many people’s systems and must be peeled. When it comes to cruciferous vegetables — broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts — things get trickier, because bacteria and dirt can be lurking in the tight florets. It’s best to blanch these veggies by dunking them in boiling water for about 10 seconds. The impact of blanching on the availability of nutrients is minor, and some of the nutrients become more bioavailable and easier to digest. For softer fruits like berries, it’s best to use a colander as well.

*Sidenote: Broccoli juiced can be challenging to digest, resulting in bloating, gas, or cramping. I wouldn’t recommend juicing it, especially if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome*
Another big question I get asked a lot is: “can every fruit and vegetable be juiced?” The answer is yes. Now, should they be juiced? The answer is no.

Fruits like strawberries, mangos, blueberries, and raspberries do not juice well, trust me. They are best for smoothies or a slushie, even ice cream. (lol)

Don’t juice the peel of oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and tangelos. They have volatile oils that can cause stomach upset. Lemon and lime peel is fine.

Don’t juice rhubarb leaves; they are toxic. The stalks are fine to juice. If you’re on warfarin or other blood-thinning medications, avoid high amounts of parsley juice. If you’re prone to kidney stones, go light on oxalate-rich juices such as spinach, rhubarb, beets, okra, and Swiss chard.

Avocados contain little to no juice, and it would get messy fast.

Please be sure to cut up and deseed your apples. Apple seed contains amygdalin, which can be poisonous when metabolized.

Dark leafy greens like kale and spinach provide a dose of calcium and vitamins A and C but skip running them through a juicer if you’re prone to kidney stones.

If you’re sensitive to fructose, you should consider steering clear. Pears contain sorbitol, a non-digestible form of sugar that can create a quick bowel movement. That’s why many people drink pear juice to treat constipation.

Now that we went over a few things, I hope this has cleared up a few questions. If you have questions anymore, please feel free to message me on here or shoot me an email. Check back soon to learn more. Don’t forget to drink your water and say your prayers. The time to heal is now. Stay beautiful!
