Alkalinity Vs. Acidity

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, hope you all are doing okay. Today we are going to learning about alkalinity and acidity. As always, please remember I am not a doctor yet! Everything stated here is based on my family and my opinion, training, and research. So please consult with your doctor before making any changes to your diet.

Acidity is measured on pH scale, which can range from zero to 14. If the pH is lower than 7, it is acidic and if it is higher than 7, it is alkaline. A pH of seven is neutral.

The skin, stomach, bladder, and vaginal area are highly acidic to protect us from outside invaders. Whereas most of our other organs and cells function best in an alkaline pH. Because many enzymes and chemical reactions in the body work best at a particular pH, a small change in the pH can have a profound effect on body function. The pH level at which your body works best is around 7.4.

Symptoms of acidity include:

Yeast infections/ Fatigue/ Weight gain/ Acne/ Allergies/ Cavities/ Headache/ Coughing Arrhythmia/ Vomiting / Nausea/ Diarrhea/ Bloating

Ways to balance your water

Baking Soda; With a Ph level of 8, it is the most popular. The recommended recipe is 1/8 tablespoon in 8 fluid ounces of boiled water. You can stir or shake until you can longer see the powder. Baking Soda is high in sodium, and the taste is bitter. If you are on a special diet that needs cutting down salt, the benefits may not be worth the risks to try this method.

Lemon Juice; Lemon juice is part of an alkaline diet. The juice, while highly acidic (typically having a pH of 2 or 3), is claimed to produce essential byproducts when metabolized. It was found that lemon juice can increase urine pH. However, science has yet to confirm the real impact this juice has on your blood pH or the claimed alkalinity-related health benefits of this drink. Similar to the baking soda recipe, you can add ⅛ tablespoon of lemon juice in 8 fluid ounces of clean water. You may want to juice the lemons beforehand and store the juice in the fridge for future use.

Ph drops are very popular and are highly concentrated minerals and electrolytes. You only need to add a couple of drops to each glass of water to increase its pH. The liquids usually come in small handy bottles so you can carry them everywhere with you. One single bottle can improve the pH of hundreds of glasses of water. This makes these drops a favored choice compared to lemon juice or Baking Soda.

You can find some here; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FJ26CUQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=luna0bc-20&linkId=bcc241f6f256f6dadf53eb510995262e

You can also use a Water filtration system, Water Filter Pitcher, and or Water Ionizer. I also drink coconut water for hydration. It is delicious if you are sick and dehydrated or after a long night out. Something cool to know is Alkaline, and coconut water is perfectly fine for light exercisers to drink after their workout sessions, but these beverages fall short for more hard-core athletes. Another fact is potassium can help lower blood pressure and enhance heart health. Coconut water is a good source of this mineral. But it’s preferable to get it by eating whole foods like spinach, sweet potatoes, and other vegetables, and drinking low-fat milk, because these options provide additional heart-healthy nutrients, such as fiber and vitamin D.

Did you know?

The pH of the food itself does not dictate how it reacts in our body. For example, one might think that fresh lemons and limes and raw organic apple cider vinegar are acidic, but they actually become alkaline when consumed.

PH Balances In Products;

Household Lye- 13.5 to 14.0

Bleach-11 to 13

Ammonia-11.5 to 12.0

Milk of magnesia- 9.3 to 10.0

Borax-8.4 to 10

Baking soda- 8.0

Sea Water-7.4

Blood-7.0

Distilled Water-6.7

Milk-6.2

Corn-6.0

Boric Acid- 4.2

Vinegar- 3

Anxiety

Happy #WellnessWednesday! On a Thursday!  Today we are back learning about Anxiety. Anxiety is a normal emotion. It’s your brain’s way of reacting to stress and alerting you of potential danger ahead.

Everyone feels anxious now and then. For example, you may worry when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision.

  Types of Anxiety

Generalized Anxiety Disorder, GAD, is an anxiety disorder characterized by chronic anxiety, exaggerated worry, and tension, even when there is little or nothing to provoke it.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD, is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Repetitive behaviors such as hand washing, counting, checking, or cleaning are often performed with the hope of preventing obsessive thoughts or making them go away. Performing these so-called “rituals,” however, provides only temporary relief, and not performing them markedly increases anxiety.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat.

Social Phobia (or Social Anxiety Disorder)

Social Phobia, or Social Anxiety Disorder, is an anxiety disorder characterized by overwhelming anxiety and excessive self-consciousness in everyday social situations. Social phobia can be limited to only one type of situation – such as a fear of speaking in formal or informal situations or eating or drinking in front of others – or, in its most severe form, may be so broad that a person experiences symptoms almost anytime they are around other people.

What are the symptoms of an anxiety disorder?

Symptoms vary depending on the type of anxiety disorder you have. General symptoms of an anxiety disorder include:

Physical symptoms:

Cold or sweaty hands.

Dry mouth.

Heart palpitations.

Nausea.

Numbness or tingling in hands or feet.

Muscle tension.

Shortness of breath.

Mental symptoms:

Feeling panic, fear, and uneasiness.

Nightmares.

Repeated thoughts or flashbacks of traumatic experiences.

Uncontrollable, obsessive thoughts.

Behavioral symptoms:

Inability to be still and calm.

Ritualistic behaviors, such as washing hands repeatedly.

Trouble sleeping

How do I know if my child has an anxiety disorder?

It’s normal for children to feel worried or anxious from time to time – such as when they’re starting school or making friends or moving to a new area.

But for some children, anxiety affects their behavior and thoughts every day, interfering with their school, home, and social life.

Symptoms of anxiety in children

Signs to look out for in your child are:

Finding it hard to concentrate

Not sleeping, or taking in the night with bad dreams

Not eating properly

Quickly getting angry or irritable, and being out of control during outbursts

Constantly worrying or having negative thoughts

Feeling tense and fidgety, or using the toilet often

Always crying

Being clingy

Complaining of tummy aches and feeling unwell

If your child is having problems with anxiety, there’s plenty you can do to help. Above all, it’s important to talk to your child about their anxiety or worries. Respect that they have boundaries and deserve the same respect you want from them.

It’s a good idea to seek professional help or reassurance yourself if your child is constantly anxious and:

it’s not getting better, or is getting worse

self-help is not working

it’s affecting their school or family life, or their friendships

Managing anxiety

Some of the management options for anxiety disorders include:

Learning about anxiety

Mindfulness

Relaxation techniques

Correct breathing techniques

Cognitive therapy

Behavior therapy

Counselling

Dietary adjustments

Exercise

Learning to be assertive

Building self-esteem

Structured problem solving

Medication

Support groups

What is herb Freezing and preservation?

Freezing herbs is fast, easy and retains much of the taste, smell and nutrients found in fresh herbs. Frozen herbs will retain much of the flavor of fresh-picked herbs for use long after the growing season has ended.

Many herbs can be simply frozen on the stem and stored in an airtight container. Left on the stem, hardier herbs like rosemary, dill, thyme, bay or sage can be spread in a single layer on a baking sheet or plate and placed in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer into any airtight container for freezer storage without clumping. To use, simply remove herbs a sprig at a time. Some herbs, like chives, can be chopped and frozen bare with little loss of flavor.

How To:

Trim the Top Section of Leaves

When your herb plant is at the peak of its growing season right before flowering trim the top section of leaves off of each stalk. Leave at least 2/3 of the plant intact.

Spread the Leaves on a Cookie sheet or Freezer Ice Cube Tray

Make sure the leaves are situated as flat as possible with space between each one. Overlapping leaves will form a hard-to-manage brick when frozen.

Freeze The Herbs

Cover the tray with wax paper (preferred) or plastic wrap and freeze for at least two hours or overnight.

Remove the Leaves From the Sheet, then Return to the Freezer in Storage Bags

When the leaves are frozen solid, remove them from the tray, place them into zippered food storage bags, and return them to the freezer. Don’t forget to label the bag)

If freezing in ice cube tray the same process is used expect for a few steps. After trimming the herb run under cool water and sake off any excess moisture. (Remove all water before freezing). Don’t forget to pluck the leaves off each stalk. You can freeze the leaves whole, but chopping and measuring may be easier when cooking. ( 1tbsp per cube is a good start)

Aloe Vera and How to use it

question of the day

Hey everyone, welcome to the question of the day!

BENEFITS OF ALOE VERA

The aloe vera plant boost digestion and may help in promoting weight loss. It has lots of antioxidants in it, so it is very beneficial when taken orally or physically. I use this personally for my face and when I get sunburn. When I started using the gel my acne cleared up. It’s been known to reduce constipation and lower blood sugar and reduce dental plaque. The dental plaque was really a shock for me. Remember always consult with your doctor before changing your diet and I am not a doctor just a future herbalist healing the world.

Aloe tips:

WASH THE YELLOW LIQID FROM THE ALOE

LEAVE THE CUT STEM IN WATER OVERNIGHT TO REMOVE IT

BEWARE IT WILL BE BITTER

DO NOT HAVE ALOE EVERYDAY

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

USES:

Juice

The best way to have aloe in your diet. All you do is remove the thick green outer layer and scoop the gel from it. Blend the gel with a little water and DONE! Again please WASH THE YELLOW LIQID FROM THE ALOE

For a step by step please check out https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/aloe-vera-juice/

Ice cubes

When you scoop the gel, mash it! You can fit them in ice cube trays and use for it for smoothies or juice.

Gel

The gel can be used as a salad dressing, face mostiruzer, add it to oil, sunburn and much more. Water-dense leaves, combined with special plant compounds called complex carbohydrates, make it an effective face moisturizer and pain reliever.

Alternative Mouthwash

Aloe vera extract is said to be a safe and effective alternative to chemical-based mouthwashes. The plant’s natural ingredients, which include a healthy dose of vitamin C, can block plaque. It can also provide relief if you have bleeding or swollen gums.

A Natural Laxative

Aloe vera is considered a natural laxative. A handful of studies have looked into the benefits of the succulent to aid digestion.

Use as a natural lubricant

Just be sure to use an organic, 100 percent aloe vera gel that doesn’t contain any perfumes or additives to avoid potential irritation. For more info check out https://www.prevention.com/sex/g21085349/best-natural-lubricants/

If you have Crohn’s disease, colitis, or hemorrhoids you shouldn’t consume aloe vera. It can cause severe abdominal cramps and diarrhea. You should stop taking aloe vera if you’re taking other medications. It may decrease your body’s ability to absorb the drugs.

How much caffeine is too much?

Hey everyone, and welcome back to my blog! Today we are going to be starting back up question of the day. For today’s question we are going to be talking about how much caffeine is too much?

If you are new to my blog, please know that I am not a certified or trained doctor so always consult with your doctor if you feel you have any issues with or in your body.

Jumping right in according to many studies for an average healthy adult you should consume no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day. For teenagers the average that should be consumes is no more than 100 mg. The effect of caffeine takes about 30 to 45 minutes to occur, and they last for eight to 10 hours. The side effects of caffeine at higher doses include restlessness, anxiety, irritability, and insomnia. Withdrawal symptoms from high doses of caffeine can include headache and fatigue.

For every 1 fluid oz (29.6g) there is 12 mg of caffeine.

Which coffee powder has more caffeine?

Devil Mountain’s Black Label coffee is known as the highest caffeine coffee in the world. Not for the faint of heart, this coffee contains over 1,500 milligrams of caffeine.

Does Instant Coffee have as much caffeine as ground coffee?

Despite taking part in the caffeine rush of real coffee, instant coffee is sometimes less caffeine-containing. The caffeine content of two tablespoons of instant coffee is between 30 and 90 mg.

Caffeine in popular drinks/products

  • 651 milligrams / per 12 fluid ounces. Starbucks Venti Coffee.
  • 415 milligrams / 20 fluid ounce. Dunkin’ Donuts Large Coffee with Turbo Shot.
  • 395 milligrams / 20 fluid ounce. Shock Coffee Triple Latte.
  • 280 milligrams/ per 23.5 ounces. Jolt energy drink.
  • 300 milligrams/per 16 fluid ounces. C4 ultimate energy drink
  • 133 milligrams/per 16 ounces. McDonalds coffee.
  • 200 milligrams/per 1.93 fluid ounces. 5-hour energy.
  • Two Excedrin Migraine tablets: 130 milligrams.

Do coffee grounds lose caffeine?

No. While coffee’s more delicate features such as its flavor will start to degrade within hours of being exposed to the air, caffeine is a much more stable chemical and tends to last for months without making any significant impact on its potency.

Is it bad to drink coffee every day?

Like so many foods and nutrients, too much coffee can cause problems, especially in the digestive tract. But studies have shown that drinking up to four 8-ounce cups of coffee per day is safe.

How many grams are a cup?

Dry Goods

Cups         Grams      Ounces

½ cup       100 g        3.55 oz

2/3 cup     134 g        4.73 oz

¾ cup       150 g        5.3 oz
