The Alkaline Diet and If it actually works

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, welcome back to another day of learning. Today we are gonna be learning about the alkaline diet. Before we get started like always please consult with a trusted doctor, nutritionist etc before trying anything new or making drastic changes.

Back in 2020 I created a 4 part series on the alkaline diet and its many benefits. Two years later I’m realizing it’s some information that I have missed and would like to share now.

The Series: https://humblesoullifeofajuicer.wordpress.com/2022/08/04/alkalinity-vs-acidity/

To do a quick review The average pH of the human body is 7.40. A diet is not defined as acidic or alkaline based on the actual pH content of the food but, rather, how foods may affect and impact the body’s pH level.

The pH scale is a tool that measures the amount of acid or base in something.

On a scale from 0 to 14:

7 is neutral

Less than 7 indicates acidity

Greater than 7 indicates a base (more alkalinity)

The Alkaline Diet claims to improve your health, help you lose weight, and even fight cancer. The Diet is based on a theory that some foods cause your body to promote acid, which is harmful. They say if you eat certain foods or drink only certain things when you change the acid level in your body, your PH level will change as well.

What are some examples of acid-forming foods?

When digested and broken down in the body, the following foods are considered acidic: Meat (fresh and processed) / Poultry (chicken, turkey) / Fish / Dairy/ Eggs / Grains

The popular alkaline diet focuses on acid-forming (low-PRAL) foods and suggests avoiding them. But do the claims behind the alkaline diet hold up? Let’s take a look.

If you look at a high-PRAL foods like red meat and dairy depending on your body type, health, family history this may create increase risk of cancer, diabetes etc. Now of course cutting those foods out or cutting down on them may erase that risk, but please remember restrictive eating is not for anyone can lead to nutritional deficiencies if not one properly.

Rather than focusing on the acid-forming potential of a food, it’s best to focus on eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods. This can definitely include some high-PRAL foods, such as animal proteins and grains.

I will say now if someone were to adopt a strict alkaline diet with 80 percent alkaline foods and 20 percent acidic foods as some websites recommend, there can be an increased risk of certain vitamin or protein deficiencies. It is important to remember hat our overall health isn’t just dependent on what or how we eat. Optimal health includes maintaining a healthy body weight, regular physical activity, quality sleep, stress reduction and social connections. Health and wellness is more than 1 stop shop.

I encourage you to be gentle with yourself eat when you’re hungry and DO NOT let anyone shame you.

Alkalinity Vs. Acidity

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, hope you all are doing okay. Today we are going to learning about alkalinity and acidity. As always, please remember I am not a doctor yet! Everything stated here is based on my family and my opinion, training, and research. So please consult with your doctor before making any changes to your diet.

Acidity is measured on pH scale, which can range from zero to 14. If the pH is lower than 7, it is acidic and if it is higher than 7, it is alkaline. A pH of seven is neutral.

The skin, stomach, bladder, and vaginal area are highly acidic to protect us from outside invaders. Whereas most of our other organs and cells function best in an alkaline pH. Because many enzymes and chemical reactions in the body work best at a particular pH, a small change in the pH can have a profound effect on body function. The pH level at which your body works best is around 7.4.

Symptoms of acidity include:

Yeast infections/ Fatigue/ Weight gain/ Acne/ Allergies/ Cavities/ Headache/ Coughing Arrhythmia/ Vomiting / Nausea/ Diarrhea/ Bloating

Ways to balance your water

Baking Soda; With a Ph level of 8, it is the most popular. The recommended recipe is 1/8 tablespoon in 8 fluid ounces of boiled water. You can stir or shake until you can longer see the powder. Baking Soda is high in sodium, and the taste is bitter. If you are on a special diet that needs cutting down salt, the benefits may not be worth the risks to try this method.

Lemon Juice; Lemon juice is part of an alkaline diet. The juice, while highly acidic (typically having a pH of 2 or 3), is claimed to produce essential byproducts when metabolized. It was found that lemon juice can increase urine pH. However, science has yet to confirm the real impact this juice has on your blood pH or the claimed alkalinity-related health benefits of this drink. Similar to the baking soda recipe, you can add ⅛ tablespoon of lemon juice in 8 fluid ounces of clean water. You may want to juice the lemons beforehand and store the juice in the fridge for future use.

Ph drops are very popular and are highly concentrated minerals and electrolytes. You only need to add a couple of drops to each glass of water to increase its pH. The liquids usually come in small handy bottles so you can carry them everywhere with you. One single bottle can improve the pH of hundreds of glasses of water. This makes these drops a favored choice compared to lemon juice or Baking Soda.

You can find some here; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FJ26CUQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=luna0bc-20&linkId=bcc241f6f256f6dadf53eb510995262e

You can also use a Water filtration system, Water Filter Pitcher, and or Water Ionizer. I also drink coconut water for hydration. It is delicious if you are sick and dehydrated or after a long night out. Something cool to know is Alkaline, and coconut water is perfectly fine for light exercisers to drink after their workout sessions, but these beverages fall short for more hard-core athletes. Another fact is potassium can help lower blood pressure and enhance heart health. Coconut water is a good source of this mineral. But it’s preferable to get it by eating whole foods like spinach, sweet potatoes, and other vegetables, and drinking low-fat milk, because these options provide additional heart-healthy nutrients, such as fiber and vitamin D.

Did you know?

The pH of the food itself does not dictate how it reacts in our body. For example, one might think that fresh lemons and limes and raw organic apple cider vinegar are acidic, but they actually become alkaline when consumed.

Eczema 101

Health and Wealth

Hey everyone, Happy Aloha Friday! Today we are going to talk about eczema and what you can do to help ease it. For those who don’t know, eczema is an atopic dermatitis condition that makes your skin red and itchy. It’s common in children but can occur at any age. Atopic dermatitis is long-lasting (chronic) and tends to flare periodically. It may be accompanied by asthma or hay fever. No cure has been found for atopic dermatitis. Luckily we live in an age where natural medicine is making a come back.

Some causes can be from factors that cause the skin to become dry, which affects the skin’s barrier function.

  • Genetic mutations that affect the skin’s barrier function
  • Immune system dysfunction causing an unwanted inflammatory response in the skin.

Certain substances or conditions called trigger factors can cause eczema to flare (i.e., become worse). These trigger factors can be:

  • Irritants such as soaps and detergents, wool, skin infections, dry skin, low humidity, heat, sweating, or emotional stress.
  • Allergens such as dust mites, pollen, molds, or foods.
  • Anything that will dry your skin

Classic Symptoms:

  • Itching. This is the worst aspect because it can be upsetting for the child. It also makes the child scratch causing further rawness of the skin and possible infections to develop.
  • Redness is caused by extra blood flowing through the blood vessels in the skin in the affected area.
  • Weeping when the blisters burst, either by themselves or because of scratching, and the fluid oozes on to the skin’s surface.
  • Crusts or scabs that form when the fluid dries.
  • Children with eczema often have dry, scaly skin. This may be the result of the disease, or it may also be the natural skin type of the family. Dry skin can be a predisposing factor for developing eczema.

Treatment:

  • Oatmeal soap bar by Smoothie Skincare (what my husband uses)
  • Oatmeal baths ( https://www.healthline.com/health/oatmeal-bath-for-eczema#bath-preparation)
  • Using emollients such as special bath oils and moisturizers. (coming soon to our shop)
  • Moisturize your skin at least twice a day
  • Take a warm bath and use bath oils.
  • Meditation and deep breathing ( it is said that stress can cause flare-ups)
  • DIET DIET DIET
  • Cut out processed foods, black tea, soy products, chocolate, and eggs.
  • WATER WATER WATER (dry skin prevention starts from the inside every morning before eating anything drink 1 cup of hot water lime and chia seeds about 1 -2 tsp to start. Not only will you detox your skin, but you will also begin to shed a few pounds if that is what you are looking to do.)

Alkaline Diet Part Three

Health and Wealth

Good evening everyone, and welcome back to my blog Humble Soul Life Of A Juicer. We are now in Part 3 of our mini-series on the Alkaline Diet. I want to take the time to thank everyone who follows, likes, subscribes, buys donates, etc. As always, please remember I am not a doctor yet! Everything stated here is based on my family and my opinion, training, and research. So please consult with your doctor before making any changes to your diet. Also, I have tried this diet, and it was beautiful. I am back eating any and everything. I love food, but for me, I am at a point where it’s to change and will be going back to this diet. Jumping straight into things, we will start by talking about mucus. When you hear mucus, I know the first thing you think of blowing the nose, right? Or even like a chest cold? But few know the dangers mucus can cause. The definition of mucus is a protective substance that’s excreted from multiple areas of the body, such as the mouth, sinuses, throat, lungs, stomach, and intestines. Sugar-containing proteins (or glycoproteins) called mucins give mucus its gelatinous consistency. Discarded infection-fighting white blood cells plus other debris picked up in the nasal passageways often catch a ride in the phlegm too. Did you know you also have mucus in your eyes, ears, GI tract, and reproductive and urinary organs? It’s crazy to think about the human body and everything it holds. Now all those places contain mucus.

What does that mean for diseases? From diabetes, leukemia, breast cancer, or even herpes, they come from the same thing can you guess what? Before moving on, I want to send love and light to the great Dr. Sebi as we jump into his teachings and why mucus is so harmful. I know you are thinking who in the heck is that and why should I care. He is also known as Alfredo Bowman, who isn’t a medical doctor but was a herbalist and had many teachings curing things such as aids and leukemia. With only thousands of claims of people who have been treated. These and similar assertions resulted in a 1993 lawsuit that ended with the court ordering Dr. Sebi’s organization to stop making these claims. Dr. Sebi died in 2016 in police custody. Below will be a few videos that have helped me on my journey.

Dr. Sebi believed that mucus and acidity caused disease. The diet aims to achieve an alkaline state in the body to prevent or eradicate the disease. He held that eating certain foods and avoiding others could detoxify the body, achieving an alkaline state that could reduce the risk and effects of the disease. The Mucous membrane of our biological structure has been compromised when we get such conditions. The membrane is broken, and wherever that broke has taken place, it takes its place. For example, when the nasal passage is blocked, we blame a cold or sinusitis, in the bronchial tubes bronchitis, the lungs pneumonia. The Dr.Sebi diet is as followed.

  • Only eat alkaline foods.
  • Drink one gallon of natural water
  • Avoid animal products, hybrid foods, and alcohol
  • Avoid using the microwave
  • Avoid canned seedless fruits

You should eat, fruits and vegetables including avocado, kale, bell peppers, and wild arugula, apples, bananas, dates, and Seville oranges

  • grains, including rye, wild rice, and quinoa
  • oils, including avocado, hempseed, coconut, and olive oils, though the diet advises against using the latter two in cooking
  • nuts and seeds, including hemp and raw sesame seeds, tahini butter, and walnuts
  • herbal teas, including chamomile, fennel, and ginger varieties
  • natural sweeteners, including agave syrup and date sugar
  • spices, including cayenne and powdered seaweed

Some benefits claimed are weight loss, appetite control, altering the microbiome, and reduces the risk of disease. With every diet, it’s essential to make sure you get all your nutrients. With this diet, a Vitamin B-12 deficiency has been reported. It’s critical to consult your doctor or health care provider before changing anything! With so much information, if you have questions, please feel free to ask. Listed below are a few recipes to try!

Alkaline Diet Part Two.

Health and Wealth

Good evening everyone, and welcome back hopefully you have read Alkaline Diet; What you need to know first hand? By now. If you haven’t, I suggest you start there and circle back. For a quick recap, if you forgot, an Alkaline diet is based on a theory that some foods cause your body to promote acid, which is harmful. They say if you eat certain foods or drink only certain things when you change the acid level in your body, your PH level will change as well. Now, of course, with many diets and whatnot, there will be claims. One popular claim associated with the Alkaline diet is that a low-acid, high alkaline diet can help fight and prevent cancer. Cancer cells thrive in acidity from foods like sugar, fish, processed foods, soda, and high protein food. Now, of course, all of those things are super yummy. But are you here for a good time or a long time? To backtrack again, remember that the average blood pH range is between 7.35 and 7.45 for most people, and given the tight regulation of blood pH level by the lungs and kidneys, what you eat or don’t eat has little effect on it. PH levels in urine can be affected by dietary factors, but the two systems are entirely separate. The theory of the low-acid, high-alkaline diet as a cancer preventer or fighter persists because the diet is something we can control. But then again, with so little testing, it is always essential to consult with your doctor. Also, remember that I am not a doctor, and everything I and my families own opinion, research, and training.

It’s important to know what foods are right to eat and not eat if you want to try this diet out. On our, IG will be charts posted later tonight on Alkaline and Acid Forming Foods from low to high. Don’t forget to follow, like, and comment. Below are a few recipes that I LOVE are alkaline friendly. A funny thing to know is alkaline is pretty much vegan but the clean eating of it.

A yummy start to your breakfast would be a Cinnamon Quinoa (http://www.alkalinesisters.com/cinnamon-quinoa-breakfast-how-i-start-my-alkaline-day/1215/). All recipes are from the AMAZING http://www.alkalinesisters.com.

For Lunch, http://www.alkalinesisters.com/crunchy-salad-of-pink-and-purple-veggies-dressed-with-thyme-beets-radish-cabbage-beanstomorrow-marks-the-first-day-of-my-retail-stores-close-out-sale/1406/

For Dinner, http://www.alkalinesisters.com/cozy-raw-veggie-soup-w-peas-carrots-ginger-cilantro-conscious-eating-is-life-changing/1680/

I’m excited for you all to try these, and now when filming begins, these recipes will be featured. Now to jump into the water and all the different kinds. But what is Alkaline water? The “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH level. Normal drinking water generally has a neutral pH of 7. The liquid typically has a pH of 8 or 9. However, pH alone isn’t enough to impart substantial alkalinity to water. Alkaline water must also contain alkaline minerals and negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). ORP is the ability of water to act as a pro- or antioxidant. The more negative the ORP value, the more anti-oxidizing it is. Is it better to drink some fancy water? If you are me then yes. In my experience, I feel better after drinking advanced water. It’s especially useful if you are dehydrated. BUT, none of you should because most of us are stuck in the house. A tale sign you are dehydrated is if you are craving salt. An excellent liquid second best to water is coconut water. Despite the lack of proven scientific research, proponents of alkaline water still believe in its proposed health benefits.

These include:

  • anti-aging properties (via liquid antioxidants that absorb more quickly into the human body)
  • colon-cleansing properties
  • immune system support
  • hydration, skin health, and other detoxifying properties
  • weight loss
  • cancer resistance

Alkaline Water can be bought from most stores. You can even do it at home. Also though lemons and limes are high in acid, they contain minerals that can create like products. In my own experience, key limes are best every morning all day. Amazon also sells PH drops, or you can use baking soda. I would advise you to be careful with baking soda and always ask questions.

Check back tomorrow as continue our journey and talk about products I recommend, mucus, and the teachings of the late Dr.Sebi. Until the next time, I hope you heal.

Alkaline Diet; What you need to know first hand?

Health and Wealth, Mini Series

Alkaline Diet, is it a popular trend? Or something worth trying. It has been picking up a lot of attention lately from everyone around, so today we are going to talk about it.

The Alkaline Diet claims to improve your health, help you lose weight, and even fight cancer. The Diet is based on a theory that some foods cause your body to promote acid, which is harmful. They say if you eat certain foods or drink only certain things when you change the acid level in your body, your PH level will change as well.

The pH scale measures how acidic or basic something is, on a scale of 0-14. Something alkaline is on the necessary end of the scale, or greater than 7. Now a big question upfront is, is it safe? The alkaline Diet reinforces healthy eating. The Diet recommends eating more vegetables, fruits, and drinking lots of water and cutting back on sugar, alcohol, meat, and processed foods. All of these things will help improve your overall health, help you lose weight, and even help lower your cancer risk. If you’re considering starting any diet, it’s essential to talk your doctor first. You should know that the changes you make to your diet will not impact the pH levels of your blood, but they could have a positive effect on your overall health.

Check back tomorrow for learning more about the Diet and cancer, different waters, and even some recipes.
